Good tile care starts with identifying the tile, grout and sealant actually installed. Keep the product information from your project so you can choose suitable cleaners, observe curing instructions and recognise when a change needs attention.
Start with the handover instructions
Ask when the installation can be exposed to water, foot traffic, furniture and floor heating. The answer comes from the installed products, not simply from the day the visible tile was finished. Keep any heating-system instructions and product care sheets with your renovation records.
Ask whether sealing is appropriate for the selected tile or grout, which product is compatible and what future maintenance it requires. Not every tile or grout has the same sealing requirements.
Everyday cleaning
Remove loose grit before wet cleaning and use a cleaner suitable for the specific surface and grout. Follow the cleaner’s dilution, application and rinsing instructions. Test an unfamiliar product in an inconspicuous place, as the manufacturer recommends.
Avoid assuming that a strong or acidic cleaner is appropriate for every stain. Daltile provides separate ceramic and porcelain care guidance; consult the instructions for your particular finish.
Natural stone needs product-specific care
Natural stone can be sensitive to unsuitable cleaning products. Daltile recommends a neutral-pH stone cleaner and checking product compatibility in its stone maintenance guidance. Ask your supplier about the exact stone, finish and any sealer used.
Keep the original material information so a stain or surface change can be assessed correctly. Using an aggressive cleaner before identifying the stone can make a cosmetic issue more difficult to address.
Watch joints and changes in the installation
Check for missing grout, damaged flexible joints, loose tile, spreading cracks or signs of dampness. These changes do not all have the same cause. Repeated joint damage may deserve an assessment of movement or moisture rather than another round of surface cleaning.
See our repair guide if a defect returns or grows. For a leaking shower, assess the source before assuming regrouting will solve it.
Keep spare tile and useful records
Retain safely stored spare tile, product labels, grout colour and installation records. Those details can help match a later repair or identify the appropriate care method. Take clear photos when you notice a new issue and note when it appeared.
