The work behind a tile finish helps determine how the installation performs. Vule Tile provides waterproofing and preparation as part of tile projects in Burlington, Toronto and the GTA, with the assembly chosen for the room, substrate and selected products.
Assess the existing surface first
A shower wall, concrete slab and wood-framed floor do not need the same preparation. The substrate should be evaluated for its condition and suitability before a setting system is selected. Loose finishes, damage, unevenness and movement can affect the scope.
Photos help start the discussion, but concealed conditions may only become clear during inspection or removal. Ask how additional preparation will be documented and approved if the existing surface differs from the estimate assumptions.
Wet-area waterproofing
A tiled shower needs a water-management plan behind the visible finish. Corners, seams, pipe penetrations, niches and the connection to the drain all matter. Waterproofing components need to be compatible and installed to the selected system’s requirements.
Grout or a surface sealer is not a replacement for the planned shower waterproofing assembly. See our shower waterproofing questions and bathroom installation service to prepare for a conversation about your room.
Floor preparation and membranes
Tile format and the substrate influence the required floor preparation. Some projects need repairs or flattening; others may need an appropriate underlayment or membrane. Waterproofing, uncoupling and crack-management products have different purposes, so the product should be selected for the actual condition.
Discuss the full floor build-up, transitions at adjoining rooms and any heating system before tile is installed. Preparation work is easier to understand when it is identified separately in the estimate.
Questions to include in your estimate
- What surface is the tile being installed on?
- What preparation is included, and what is subject to inspection?
- Which waterproofing or membrane system is proposed, and for what purpose?
- Who is responsible for drain, plumbing and electrical coordination?
- What product instructions, inspection steps and curing time affect the schedule?
Vule Tile can discuss these details with the homeowner or renovation contractor. Read our installer selection checklist for more ways to compare a complete installation scope.
Frequently asked questions
Does every tile floor need waterproofing?
No single assembly suits every floor. The room, exposure to water, substrate and chosen system determine the requirements. Explain how the room will be used at the estimate.
Is an uncoupling membrane the same as waterproofing?
These are different functions. Some systems can provide both when installed with the required details, but you should confirm the intended function and instructions for the exact product.
Can floor cracks be fixed simply by changing the tile?
A replacement tile may leave the cause unresolved. Movement, substrate condition or other damage should be assessed before deciding on a repair.
